Turbine to Unveil Moria at PAX; New Moria Screens

Wed, 20 Aug 2008 18:27:55 +0000

Turbine is showing up at Penny Arcade Expo 2008 to show off the first Lord of the Rings Online expansion, Mines of Moria. Moria will take players into the ruins of an ancient Dwarven wonder. While this underground city is still a place of great beauty, its now home to creatures that fear the light and thrive in darkness.

Once again, Yahtzee Croshaw is back this week to bring a hilarious review; this time for Soul Calibur IV. Since the series is almost entirely dependent on fashion-illiterate fighters and women whose bosoms are more meticulously animated than anything else in the game, you can probably guess what Croshaw’s feelings are towards it. And that’s all before he even gets to the strange addition of Yoda and Darth Vader into the mix. He does bring up one interesting point though when he asks whether it’s Namco Bandai or LucasArts who benefits more from this conglomeration. Personally, I’d say LucasArts, since video games seem to be the only place these days where the Star Wars universe is being handled responsibly…and then, um, forced to battle fighters that resemble Elvis and S&M fetishists for possession of a mystical sword.

Four More Characters Join MK Vs. DC Cast

Wed, 20 Aug 2008 15:45:10 +0000

Midway has announced four more characters that will be filling out the cast of the upcoming Mortal Kombat Vs. DC, including three somewhat expected characters and one coming right out of nowhere. On the MK side of things, Raiden and Kano will both be joining the fray and keeping the bad guy to good guy ration intact. And the DC side is getting Wonder Woman and…Deathstroke? Huh? That’s kind of odd to have him joining the ranks of such villains as Catwoman and the Joker. Midway also sent along a new batch of screenshots showing some of the characters revealed awhile back in action, such as the Green Lantern and Liu Kang. I have to say though, I think I’m going to have the most fun playing as the Joker. Just the fact that he keeps smiling no matter how bad of a beating he’s getting makes a pretty fearsome foe in my opinion.

Meet the "Sandvich" From TF2

Wed, 20 Aug 2008 14:15:15 +0000

We knew that Valve was making character trailers for all the classes in Team Fortress 2, but I don’t think anyone expected something quite like this. Their latest in the “Meet the…” series of videos introduces us to one of the Heavy’s new power ups instead, and it’s a…sandwich? Yes, it seems this sandwich can be eaten for a 120 health points, giving you a nice edge in battle. And that edge apparently comes in the form of breaking spines. Enjoy.

Sony’s recent announcement that all the peripherals for future music games (Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero: World Tour, and Rock Revolution) would be compatible with each title elicited many sighs of relief among the gamer crowd. But it still the left one question hanging in the air: what about the Xbox 360? Well, that question has now been answered quite simply over at Microsoft’s Gamerscore blog, where they say quite simply, “For the record, we also do that, so consider this an official announcement.” Do you feel that? That’s what it feels like to not be pumped for cash at every opportunity for a change.
