The 256MB demo allows access to a fraction of terrains, trains, barons, objectives, and events, which should whet the appetites of fans of simulation/strategy games for the PC.

Starting the Demo
There are a few ways to start the demo.
1. Click the "Launch Sid Meier's Railroads! Demo" shortcut from the start menu.
2. Double-click the "Launch Sid Meier's Railroads! Demo" shortcut on your desktop.
or
1. Insert the the Sid Meier's the Railroads! demo game disc into your CD-ROM Drive.
2. Click on the Start Menu, then select "Programs" (or "All Programs" if you're running Windows XP), then select "Firaxis Games," then "the Sid Meier's the Railroads! demo," then select the "the Sid Meier's the Railroads! demo" icon.
DEMO TIPS AND TRICKS
Tutorial
We recommend first completing the tutorial to learn the basics of tracklaying and routing before attempting the demo scenario. The tutorial takes about 15 minutes to complete.
Demo Scenario
The demo scenario is a small-sized map, built for 2-player play, which contains some of the many goods, resources and industries you'll have access to the in the full retail game.
You will begin in the town of Towson, with 50 game years to complete four objectives. These objectives can be accessed at any time by pressing the [Victory Screen] hotkey (default: F3). In this demo, you will have access to five specially selected trains from across Europe and the US. New trains will be made available every ten game years. Hint: the town of New Freedom is just to the West of Towson, and it supplies and demands passengers and mail. It's also one of the cities you need to connect to your line as part of your first objective. (Try running track there and setting up a passenger line between New Freedom and Towson.)
