If you receive this error and wish to use the TELEMETRY features, you must download and install Vbrun60sp6.exe available from Microsoft. The download is approximately 1 MB in size and available via the WWW at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7b9ba261-7a9c-43e7-9117-f673077ffb3c&DisplayLang=en You must have a broadband (DSL, Cable, or faster) connection in order to play NASCAR SimRacing online. Please note that dialup (56k) connections are not supported by NASCAR SimRacing. Please ensure the game CD is present in your CD/DVD drive prior to starting the game. Note that the game CD is not required to be in your CD/DVD drive in order to run the NASCAR SimRacing - PC - Dedicated Server application. INSTALLATION ============ NASCAR SimRacing will only install and run on machines running Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 or Windows XP. If using Microsoft Windows 2000, XP Pro/Home, you must have administrator rights in order to install. 1. Start your machine and wait for the Windows 98/ME/2000/XP operating system to load. 2. Place the game CD in the CD drive. 3. Windows will automatically detect the CD and launch the Autorun program. Click Install to begin the installation and follow the on-screen instructions to install the game. If the Auto insert notification feature has been disabled or the CD is not recognized, run Autorun.exe from the root directory of the CD to begin the installation program. 4. The installation program adds a program group called EA SPORTSNASCAR SimRacing to your StartPrograms menu, and a shortcut to your desktop. Click on this shortcut or alternatively click on the start button on your Windows task bar. Under ProgramsEA SPORTSNASCAR SimRacing select NASCAR SimRacing to play. DIRECTX ======= NASCAR SimRacing requires DirectX version 9.0c or higher to be installed on your personal computer in order to run. For your convenience, we have included the latest version of DirectX (9.0c) on the NASCAR SimRacing CD. If you need to update a previously installed version of DirectX you will be asked to do this as part of the installation process. Should you wish to install DirectX at any time other than during the install process, this can be done as follows: 1. Insert the NASCAR SimRacing CD and open the DirectX directory. 2. Double-click on DXSETUP.EXE If your sound card or video card does not support DirectX 9.0c or higher, please contact your hardware vendor. UNINSTALL ========= To uninstall NASCAR SimRacing: 1. Go to ProgramsEA SPORTSNASCAR SimRacing in the Start menu. 2. Click on Uninstall NASCAR SimRacing to proceed. Alternatively: 1. Click on the Start menu, select Settings and then Control Panel. 2. Now find Add/Remove Programs and click to run. 3. Scroll down the list until you see NASCAR SimRacing, select it and click on Add/Remove to uninstall. 3D SETUP ======== A configuration utility called 3D Setup is installed with NASCAR SimRacing. When you install and play the game for the first time, 3D Setup automatically asks you to confirm the default selection, and normally users will find this selection satisfactory. Whenever you install or remove video devices, do not run NASCAR SimRacing again without first running 3D Setup from the Start Menu. The 3D Setup shortcut is located in the ProgramsEA SPORTSNASCAR SimRacing start menu. 3D Setup will test your system for the presence of supported video devices (this may be accompanied by a black screen flash on your monitor). When 3D Setup appears, click the OK button to select the default video device, or choose an alternative 3D accelerator and/or rendering resolution by clicking on it and then clicking OK. If an unsupported video device or other problem is detected by the 3D Setup program, you will be informed that this is the case. TROUBLE SHOOTING ================ If you increase the settings of your display options and experience graphical problems and/or decreased performance and have the latest drivers, we recommend setting your Display options back to their defaults. Users of L.C.D. displays, especially laptop displays, may experience noticeably decreased performance when running the game at any resolution other than the native resolution of the L.C.D. display which is usually 1280x1024. Users with Full Screen Anti-Aliasing (FSAA) enabled on video cards that support this feature may notice occasional minor graphical issues - we recommend that FSAA is disabled when playing NASCAR SimRacing. 3D Setup will analyze your video systems ability to render with Full Screen Anti-Aliasing (FSAA) enabled and in some cases disallow the option based upon the detected hardware and drivers. Users of video cards incorporating the NVIDIA GeForce Ti 4600 chipset and version 66.93 of the NVIDIA Forceware may experience problems such as the player car not being displayed on the main menu. Users of NVIDIA video cards utilizing the NVIDIA Forceware 66.93, 66.94 or 71.84 drivers and AMD processors without SSE support may experience various graphical problems. These problems can be avoided by using an older version of the NVIDIA Forceware drivers. SSE (Streaming SIMD Extensions) support is included in all Intel Pentium III and Pentium IV processors as well as on AMD CPUs that support AMD's 3Dnow!™ Professional technology, which is supported in all Model 8 and Model 6 AMD Athlon™ processors (AMD Athlon XP, AMD Athlon MP, mobile AMD Athlon 4) and Model 7 AMD Duron™ processors. Users of Windows 98, a video card incorporating any of the NVIDIA GeForce chipsets and version 61.76 or 71.84 of the NVIDIA Forceware drivers may experience problems with the rendering of the driver arms/hands. This problem is avoided by using an older version of the NVIDIA Forceware drivers. Users of Windows 98 and ME, a video card incorporating any of the NVIDIA GeForce chipsets and version 66.94 of the NVIDIA Forceware may experience problems with graphical corruption if the 3D Setup program is run consecutively without restarting your machine in between. Restarting your machine will fix any graphical corruption. Under Windows 98 and ME, certain tasks such as the Dial Up Networking interface may be deemed the active task whilst being displayed in front of, behind or underneath the game. In order to return active control to the game, use the windows task switching hot key (Alt Tab) to toggle through the active tasks and return priority to the game. NASCAR SimRacing is not compatible with Video cards that use the SIS PV-SO5A-C. Users of the Matrox Parhelia video card may experience graphical problems and their vehicle rendered incorrectly at times within the user interface. Users of the Matrox Parhelia 128 MB video card may occasionally experience flickering horizontal lines if the Refresh Rate for the card is set lower than 75 HZ. On some video cards, you may encounter problems using Windows multi-task keys (Alt-Tab etc.) to switch between NASCAR SimRacing and other active applications. We recommend avoiding any form of Windows multi-tasking during play at all times possible. Fast user switching within Windows XP on machines with less than 512 MB RAM and/or low virtual memory settings may cause the game to be terminated during the switch. We do not recommend the use of fast user switching during play. With V-Sync enabled the introductory and subsequent movies may slow down and/or stutter occasionally. This does not affect game play and can be bypassed by pressing while the movie is playing. When playing the game with limited user rights, game files are saved in the My Documents directory for the limited user account. These files will not be removed automatically by the uninstall process. Users of the Diamond Multimedia Monster Sound MX400 and Windows 98 may experience stuttering sound in the event that sound acceleration is enabled. Users of the ESS Maestro, Philips Acoustic Edge and integrated VIA Audio sound devices may experience occasional audio inconsistencies. ISA sound cards are not supported. Users that may have manually reduced their virtual memory or are running low on hard drive space may experience problems running the game. We strongly recommend that Windows is set to automatically manage virtual memory and that a minimum of 256 MB virtual memory is always allowed. If you have problems with saving and recording replays, it's possible that you will need to free up some hard drive space to accommodate the data saved as you play the game. For best performance, we recommended that you have at least 1 Gigabyte of free hard drive space available at all times. If you run out of hard drive space as a result of saving a large replay file, upon reloading this file and playing it, the game may exit to desktop upon reaching the point in time that you ran out of drive space. Certain game controllers may not be detected consistently by your operating system. In any case that you are unable to get a certain game controller to function, first check that the controller is reported to be OK under your operating system. If the controller is reported as OK then ensure that you have it selected under Options. If the controller still fails to respond once selected, enter the Controls page from Settings and remap the controls for your device as described in the manual. Users of the Wingman Formula Force wheels may occasionally see the test gizmo within the Controls pages indicate that both the Accelerator and Brake pedals are partially depressed when they are not. Pressing the pedals completely and releasing them slowly will correct this problem. During multiplayer races, when a player joins a game, to save time joining and prevent delays impacting other players, their selected car may be displayed using a default paint scheme. The selected paint scheme will be displayed for all players presently connected when you return to the Session Status screen where the selected maps may be loaded without impacting your driving. During multiplayer races, the display driver names function, activated by pressing the TAB key, may be used to help identify players that are suffering from lag. Above each car will be a "perceived latency" value. This indicates how old the data is for that individual player that your machine is working from. As latency increases the games focus will shift from trying to render collisions as accurately as possible to trying to smooth out the opponent. As this shift occurs collisions will become less accurate. If an opponent has too high of a latency rating, and it becomes impossible to render their position accurately, the game may render that opponent non-collidable, so you will be able to drive right through them, thus avoiding having your race ended by hitting a car that appeared to be positioned incorrectly. If you are hosting multiplayer games and finding these to be invisible to other players, check the following: 1. The following ports must be available to the Internet in order for races to be visible to other players: 22444 - 22643 UDP (Gamespy) 2. Regardless of your NAT (Network Address Translation) ensure that the ports listed above are routed to the server machine. During multiplayer races, lag and latency problems may cause other cars to appear jumpy. If you experience this, try the following: 1. Have the host/server machine Select a lower connection type. 2. Have the host/server machine decrease display details. This should increase the frame rate at which the game runs on the server and in turn increase the speed at which it can transmit and receive player updates. 3. Try joining a game hosted using the dedicated server application. 4. As host, boot those players with high latency ratings. Use Ctrl P to display ping and packet loss and Ctrl F to display frame rate. Windows ME users with DirectX 9.0c or lower installed may need to install DirectX 8.1 prior to upgrading to the latest DirectX 9.0c included on the game CD in order for the game to run correctly. In the event you experience any visual or audio related abnormality that is not mentioned herein, please contact your hardware manufacturer to verify that you have the latest drivers installed. If you have the latest drivers installed for your system and continue to experience problems, please consult the EA Technical Help file situated in Start MenuProgramsEA SPORTSNASCAR SimRacing entitled Technical Support for details of common problems which may be preventing NASCAR SimRacing working on your system. In any event, before you call our customer support helpdesk, please ensure you have analyzed your machine in full using the EAsy info tool provided. 1.0.2.5 ======= This update primarily addresses scoring and rules related problems that have been brought to our attention for both single and multiplayer modes. The update does however include fixes for some other areas and also includes the new Dodge Charger for the NEXTEL Cup Series - 2005. Additional updates will follow including more fixes, new features as well as the updated Chevrolet and Ford cars for the NEXTEL Cup Series - 2005. The list below provides a summary of the problems reported and the resolution provided. Whenever a player incurs a penalty while under caution and pit road is open, the player in first place is inappropriately penalized. Most commonly, the race leader is issued a stop/go penalty. Fixed The race leader is often penalized for lapping the field under caution and issued a stop/go penalty at the end of any caution period. Fixed The player is often told to follow a driver that is several seconds behind them when leaving the pit road under caution. In this instance the player is often inappropriately disqualified. Fixed Scoring is locked inappropriately when players/computer drivers spin immediately ahead of the player. Fixed Scoring is locked inappropriately when players leave the race track and drive slowly on the apron to enter pit road when it is closed. Fixed Scoring is locked inappropriately when players leave the race track under caution to enter the pit road and other drivers behind them decide to stay out. Fixed During multiplayer races, a caution period is often triggered inappropriately when a player enters pit road to make a stop. Fixed With AUTO PACE enabled, the players car is sometimes ordered and driven around for an entire lap inappropriately. Fixed Computer drivers start qualifying with less than a full tank of fuel. Fixed If the player has AUTO PACE enabled, when a caution is triggered and the player car drives down to the apron, the player car may then lap the entire field without incurring a penalty. Fixed The first lap of any race is sometimes scored as though the Yellow is still out. Fixed. Sometimes when the player is told to move to the end of the longest line, the appropriate icon is not displayed on the HUD. Fixed. Sometimes when the player has AUTO PACE enabled, the player car is not taken control of until the start of the second caution lap. Fixed. During multiplayer races, sometimes, the icons displayed on the HUD indicating Black Flag and Longest Line penalties remain displayed after the penalty has been served. Fixed. Computer controlled drivers often continue to complete laps and race after the race has finished. Fixed Players with AUTO PIT Off making a pit stop during the last lap ( white flag) of any race are unable to leave pit road if the race leader crosses the start/finish line during the time they are making their stop. Fixed The spotter does not inform players of cars around them during any session of a multiplayer race. Fixed for race session. The spotter sometimes gives the player inappropriate direction when the player is the lucky dog. Fixed The crew chief congratulates the player constantly on the results screen in the case the player led a lap thus scoring 5 bonus points. Fixed With AUTO PACE enabled, client setups are not loaded correctly for the race session. Fixed When players slow to a halt on the pace lap and clearly make no attempt to stay up with the pace car, other players are disqualified for passing the player making none or little attempt to follow the rules. Fixed Any player in first or second place following the pace car during any caution receiving a removed from line penalty is told to pass the pace car and take position at the rear of the field. Fixed Players are sometimes disqualified for an improper race start after being out of position early in the lap but being lined up correctly in time for the race start. Fixed Players are often disqualified for an improper race start after being out of position early in the lap but being lined up correctly in time for the start after restarting the race. Fixed A caution is triggered in the event that a player crosses the start/finish line on pit road having ignored a penalty until the last possible lap. Scoring is locked incorrectly at this time causing other players to be often instantaneously and incorrectly disqualified. Fixed Players are often disqualified when crossing the start/finish line when driving on pit road to serve a stop/go penalty on the last lap possible. Fixed A caution is sometimes triggered inappropriately in the event of a player electing to spectate after wrecking and their pit area being driven through by another player. After the caution scoring is often subsequently locked inappropriately and this may cause players to receive stop/go penalties and/or to be disqualified. Fixed The Pace car drives so slowly at some tracks that drivers have to slow to pit road speed as soon as they head for pit road so as to avoid illegally passing the car they should be following. Fixed The pace car crashes into the wall occasionally when exiting pit road to begin the first lap of a caution at New Hampshire. Fixed During multiplayer games and caution periods, the F2 standings display is often incorrect. Fixed Players are sometimes not taken to the race session at the start if they are viewing replays. Fixed An invisible barrier may exist at the entrance and exit of pit road. The barrier has no collision from the players perspective but computer drivers and other drivers appear to collide momentarily with the invisible barrier and wall collision maps are generated. Fixed Selecting any lap of Telemetry where the player car was controlled via AUTO PACE or AUTO PIT causes the Telemetry application to crash. Fixed When the computer takes control of a disqualified or wrecked vehicle, it would sometimes take 5 seconds or longer for the vehicle to be removed from the race and during this time, the computer controlled vehicle could often cause further incidents. Fixed The following is a short list of other miscellaneous changes that have been made. Constant weather now forces both TRACK and AIR TEMP. to 75°F. Drafting effects are reduced approximately 7.5%. Dodge Charger model and maps for NEXTEL Cup Series - 2005. Updated default volume levels. Implemented locked rear differential. Revised default aggression levels for all standard difficulty levels.
