1. Background:
--------------
This mod was designed to play, as closely as possible under SEV programming
restrictions, like
the Babylon 5 Wars (B5W) board game created by Agents of Gaming (AOG). This mod is
in the public
domain and no monetary gain has come from its creation to the programmer. It is
simply my love
of B5W and Babylon 5 that motivated me to make it. ;-)
2. Brief Summary of Changes:
----------------------------
The tech tree has had a complete overhaul to include most of the components available
in the B5W
universe. Each B5W race and their unique weapon sets are represented. Captain
Kwok's Balance Mod
was used as the initial backbone. Too many modifications have been made to account
for all the
differences but folks will recognize Captain Kwok's influence in certain areas as
they play.
The mod incorporates parts of Fyron's Quadrant Mod, which adds a lot of new systems
and quadrant types, and generally makes each system unique and interesting
to explore.
Ship sizes have been slightly modified, remain very similar to Balance Mod, and there
is a return to a SE:III style propulsion system where larger ships require more
engines to move.
Ship balance between small and large ships is better, along with some tweaks to
reduce the stress of ship design.
Players will quickly notice the racial traits, governments, and societies sections
are now VERY diverse with many choices.
The B5W flavor has been added to most all game text files.
3. Mod Installation
-------------------
1. Extract the contents of .zip/.rar file to SE:V's GameType folder (..Space Empires
V\GameTypes)
2. When starting a new game or using quick start, select "Arpeegy's B5W Mod" from
the list
of game types to use the mod
3. Enjoy!
Note that saved games with the mod will automatically load the mod when you load
them.
4. Using Tampa_Gamer's Sound Pack with the B5W Mod:
-------------------------------------------------------
If you have Tampa_Gamer's sound pack installed, follow these steps to use it with the
B5W Mod:
1. In your B5W Mod data folder, rename SoundEffects.txt to SoundEffects_Stock.txt
2. Then rename SoundEffects_TG.txt to SoundEffects.txt
5. Adding Custom Races to the Mod:
-----------------------------------
If you've downloaded a new shipset and would like to use it in the B5W Mod, follow
the steps
below:
1. Create a folder in the B5W Mod's Empires folder with the same name as the Race's
default folder - it
is important to use the exact same name so the game will know where the pictures
and models are
2. Copy the race's [Race Name]_AI_main.txt file into that folder
3. Edit the following lines in [Race Name]_AI_main.txt:
From:
AI Script File := [Race Name]\[Race
Name]_Main_Script.csf
AI Script Empire Setup File := [Race Name]\[Race
Name]_Setup_Script.csf
To one of the following default scripts:
AI Script File :=
Default\Default_Moderate_Main_Script.csf
AI Script Empire Setup File :=
Default\Default_Moderate_Setup_Script.csf
AI Script File :=
Default\Default_Defensive_Main_Script.csf
AI Script Empire Setup File :=
Default\Default_Defensive_Setup_Script.csf
AI Script File :=
Default\Default_Aggressive_Main_Script.csf
AI Script Empire Setup File :=
Default\Default_Aggressive_Setup_Script.csf
This will tell the AI to use default AI files with the ship set.
6. Adding FQM Beta v10+:
-------------------------
The B5W Mod incorporates most of the FQM changes, but if you'd like to merge an
updated FQM version with the
mod, here is one way to do it:
1. Copy your B5W Mod folder and rename it to something like "B5W Mod FQM"
2. From your FQM install, copy all of the .txt files in the data folder into the B5W
Mod FQM data folder
Alternatively, you can also follow these instructions:
http://fqm5.spaceempires.net/help.php
3. Make sure you have the "Stellar Pack" from the Multimedia Pack installed - its
required for
FQM Beta v10 or greater:

In addition, I want to thank my wife, Natalie "Nellyphant" Dunn, for being patient
with me while I designed and
programmed the B5W mod. And, of course, no thanks would be complete without
recognizing, thanking,
and giving our appreciation to the below folks:
J. Michael Straczynski - Creator/Writer/Executive Producer of Babylon 5.
Warner Bros who own all copyrights and trademarks to Babylon 5.
Agents of Gaming (AOG) who created and published one of the best games of all
time...B5W. They also
own all Copyrights/Trademarks to the B5W name and game.
Donald Jensen for building the Mod start screen graphic.
Finally, this mod uses a few components and ideas from these other great mods...so
thanks go to their authors:

9. Volunteers Needed
---------------------------
Anyone interested in improving upon this mod please contact me. In this way we can
insure one
complete and "unofficial" B5W Mod with each update. Some areas requiring
volunteers:
1. Updated UI Graphics...my amateur UI pictures were done to establish a B5
feel...they need work.
2. AI Scripting...without a volunteer(s) to script AI this mod will forever be a
multiplayer only mod.
3. Babylon 5 Models...thanks to BlackSwan the community has some B5 models to use in
this mod. The
community needs more volunteers to step forward and provide more great B5 ships.
4. All I ask is the B5W feel needs to remain...the rules were inspired from AOG's
B5W game, to deviate too
far from those rules will ruin the mod. Outside of that, any creative input would
be appreciated.
5. Unique Flag Textures would be nice.
