Diablo 2++ Alpha 3.1 (31/8/2000)
================================
PREFACE
-------
Diablo 2++ is a MOD for Blizzard Entertainment's Diablo II. It extends
the gameplay of the original game by adding:
- changes to existing Character
- improving various aspects of the game (gems, potions etc.)
- New suffixes and prefixes
- New Uniques and Set Items
- Changes to skills to make it more life more interesting.
- changes to make more playing style possible.
- makes the skeletons-rasing Nercomancer possible to play in harder levels.
- Ability to buy rings, amulets and exceptional throwing weapons.
- Made the game less unreasonable (in terms of some bosses and the ARx4 bug)
IF YOU USE A PRE-EXISTING CHARACTER, YOUR EQUIPMENT WILL MORPH! (no serious
harm, for when you change back to the original Diablo 2, the items will
be restored to their original abilities).
This MOD is best suited for v1.03 and works only for the ENGLISH verison of the
game. See the FAQ before emailing me, thanks!
BTW, I adore feedbacks. I'm interested in how do you think of the new features and
whether the game is challenging (still or more?) in the MOD, or whether it is more
or less interesting.
This is the first ever alpha release of this Mod, and hence it is not
really test-played. Please do send in suggestions and feedbacks. Take note
that the Mod may make the game easier or harder (most likely it'll be easier
:-D) so please feedback to me as to what you like and do not like. I suspect the game
will be very easy on normal games, but will make Hell slightly more enjoyable (which
may not be desirable :-D ).
INSTALLATION
------------
Diablo 2++ now comes as a Diablo Mod Manage module (.d2m) file. Hence, the file size
of the mod has been reduced from 1 megabyte to about 200 kilobytes.
To run the mod, you'll need the Diablo II Mod Manager, avaliable at
http://www.darkarchangel.com, under the Diablo 2 MODs section. Unzip the Mod Manager
to a directory and copy d2plus.d2m to the same directory as the Manager.
An alternative site to get the Diablo II Mod Manger is http://diablo2.cheatlist.com/
mods.html
To run the MOD, just run the Manager and select Diablo 2++ Alpha 3.1 from the list
of mods.
No uninstallation is needed. Whenever you exit the mod, the mod will be uninstalled
automatically.
Please email any problems with Diablo 2 Mod Manager to webmaster@darkarchangel.com,
and not to me, thanks!
NOTES
-----
It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you play the MOD with a character created with this mod.
You can still play with your old characters, but PLEASE make a backup of your
character, as items tend to morph when you transfer characters between mods. Take
note that your existing characters may or may not be affected by the changes
made to the character. Do NOT attempt to play the original game with a character in the MOD,
you are doing it at your own risk.

HOPES FOR NEXT RELEASE
---------------------
I believe Alpha 3 concludes the changes that I wish to include in Diablo 2++
(at least the major ones) and what is left are tweaking and balancing. But that
does not mean Alpha 4 will be a boring release. Take a look at what is planned:
o Change some of the existing normal uniques.
o Balance the character/monster changes.
o Introducing a new challenge...The Abyss...

MOD CHANGES AND HISTORY
[Alpha 3]
This release heralds the Exceptional Uniques...and boosted the power of existing
set and unique items. The other major changes are in the gameplay -- character
skills and monster changes.
UNIQUES
-------
- Include new Uniques based on exceptional items! Laugh gleefully whenever you come
across these powerful artifacts: Tyreal's Might, The Backstabber, Dance of the Serpent,
Bow of the Faerie Queen, Windforce, the Girdle of Might and more.
- Improved many of the existing set items and uniques (to make them worth looking for).
PREFIXES/SUFFIXES
-----------------
- Nullify all but one of the "cursed" prefixes/suffixes. (worry not, no item morph).
- Added the new prefix group: Oracle's, Seer's, Prophet's and Destiny's.
(appear on weapons, bows, staves, wands and scepters)
Orcale's - Maximum Life +5%, Maximum Mana +5%, +5% AR
Seer's - Maximum Life +8%, Maximum mana +8%, +10% AR
Prophet's - Maximum Life +10%, Maximum Mana +10%, +15% AR
Destiny's - Maximum Life +12%, Maximum Mana +12%, +20% AR
- Added the suffix "of Immunity" - reduce magic damage by 10 to 15, increase all
resistance by 5% to 25%, reduce Defend Rating by -76 to -100.
- The prefix "Angel's", "Summoner's", "Fletcher's", "Monk's" and "Slayer's" now also appears
on weapons and bows.
- The Archangel prefix now is: +2 to All Sorceress' Skill Levels, +50% Regenerate Mana, 25% damage taken goes to Mana.
- The Necromancer prefix now is: +2 to All Nercomancer's Skill Levels, +2-6 to Mana after each kill, +5% Maximum Life
- The Priest's prefix now is: +2 to all Paladin's Skill Levels, Replenish Life 4, All Resistance +10%
- The Berserker's prefix now is: +2 to all Barbarain's Skill Levels, +10-25 Maximum Damage, +25 Strength
- The Archer's prefix now is: +2 to all Amazon's Skill Levels, +25 Dexterity, +25% Attack Rating
- Improved many of the existing suffixes/prefixes. Also added more
prefixes/suffixes to the existing list.
- Added many new suffixes/prefixes
o Improve Mana Regeneration: of Silence, of Peace
o Reduce damage taken : of Belief, of Faith, of Courage, of Virtue
o Increase Maximum Mana : of Insight, of Wisdom
o Curses (life drain) : Hexed, Cursed, Vile, of Hex, of Curse, of Pain
o Increase Dex and Str : of the Swallow, of the Eagle, of the Roc, of the Phoenix
o Increase Mana and Life : of the Ages, of Fables, of Myth, of Lore, of Yore
- The "best" prefix/suffix has a "disadvantage" now. The disadvantage is either
life drain (don't you all hate them?), reduced resistances, reduced damage or
increased light radius. (Not all prefixes/suffixes have this)
- Weapon which does fire damage (of the Flame, Burning, etc.) now
does extra damage to undead as well. (Er, dried bones and embalmed corpses
burn well, don't they? :>D ). Not appliable to socketed weapons.
- Weapons which does lightning damage (Shocking, of Thunder etc.) now
has a higher chance to hit monsters. (Does not apply to socketed weapons).
- The prefix series which increase Mana (Lizard's, Forceful, Seperent's) now only
appear on weapons, staves, scepters and wands. The suffix series which increase
Mana (of Magery, of Wizardy etc.) now only appears on rings and amulets.
- "of the Bear" now has 15% chance of Crushing Blow and does +50% damage to undead.
- The prefix "White" now appears on belts and rings.
- "of Parrying" suffix is now changed to "Reduce Damage by 10%" and appears on
staves, wands, scepters and weapons. An encouragement to use two-handed
weapons :-D. The "of Belief" suffix too now appears on two-handed weapons.
- "of Warding", "of the Sentienl", "Cunning", "Devious" etc. now provides a slight boost
to all resistances. (Very slight).
ITEMS
-----
- It is now possible to gamble for exceptional items. Think of it as a way to buy
exceptional items. (unique, rare, magical or socketed...:-D) Now here's a use
for your gold!
- Price for Exceptional items reduced. (But it is still more expensive than normal
items).
- Make a stack of keys to hold up to 100 keys. (Wow, such a gigantic key ring!!).
- Reduce the strength requirement for the beginning armor. Boosted the strength requirement
of the medium armor.
- Made the Grim Helm droppable.
- Boosted the Defend Rating for exceptional armour.
- Make items which have "+x defense" costs cheaper. (Before this, a simple +25 Defense
item can be sold for a fortune!)
- Two new base items type -- Necklaces (amulets) and Bands (rings). Those are just
amulets and rings, but are only sold at shops (You cannot find them or gamble for them).
Incidentally, rings and amulets are not longer sold at shops and they are restored to
their former prices, so they now cost the same to gamble, unlike the 450K to 500K that
many of you have been telling me about. If you want to use your MOD character in an
original game, remove all bands and necklaces!
- You now can buy unlimited rejunvation potions.
- The blocking percentage of shields have been lowered. (You don't need that much
blocking now...)
- In Nightmare and Hell mode, you can buy superior weapons (including exceptional
throwing weapons).
- Throwing weapons (Spears, Javelins etc.) are increased in numbers and can
be stacked up to 150 per stack.
- Some wands' name have been changed. "Yew Wand" has became "Rod" whereas
"Bone Wand" becomes "Major Wand". This is to prevent the Wood series prefixes
from making werid wands like "Oak Yew Wand".
- Made the Lance and Holy Water Sprinkler droppable.
- Slightly increase the chance of dropping unique/set items.
- Throwing potions can be stacked up to 50 in a stack.
MONSTERS
--------
NB: The monster changes only applied to Nightmare and Hell mode, excpet for those marked
with an asterisk (*)
- Reduce the life of "spawnable" monsters (Vile Dogs, those maggots and etc.) by about 50%
in Nightmare and Hell. If you gain no experience for them, at least make them easier to kill...
* Monster's Attack Rating has been reduced by 1/3. (Thanks, Crymson!)
* Usual critters gain a 15% regeneration health, major critters get a 25% regeneration health.
- Made Mephisto meaner. Those who find Hatred something easy to deal with shall try Mephisto again...:-D
- Reduce Duriel's resistance, damage and attack rating, but increased his defend rating, life and
regeneration.
- Reduce the damage done by the Armorer.
- Boost the experience for most monsters by about 50%.
- Reduce the Defend Rating of immboile enemies (Lightning Spire, Garnet Tower, for example)
to zero, hits points and resistance.
SKILLS
------
NB: Skill changes are by far the most "dangerous". If you happen not to like
the skill changes, there exist a verison of Diablo 2++ Alpha 3 WITHOUT the skill changes.
(Diablo 2++ Alpha 3 verison 3.0)
