Shigeru Miyamoto and Satoru Iwata Talk About the Odd Directions The Legend of Zelda Almost Took
Fri, 09 May 2008 06:38:07 +0000
Nintendo recently posted the latest “Iwata Says” segment, which has Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo, sitting down for a chat with Shigeru Miyamoto. The conversation starts with Iwata asking Miyamoto questions about how they came to develop Link’s Crossbow Training and accompanying Zapper, but then things start to take a turn for the weird. Miyamoto casually begins revealing some of the radical ideas that were proposed for various Legend of Zelda titles. How radical? Well, he once envisioned having Ocarina of Time play from a first-person perspective — his fascination with the FPS style eventually spawned Link’s Crossbow Training. Also, he concieved of “a sort of Terminator style story about a time warp from the future” to explain how Link might have a gun. Finally, the original prototype for the Wii Zapper? It was literally made from rubber bands and wires. Obviously (and thankfully), none of these ideas ever came to fruition. However the images in my head of Arnold Schwarzenegger decked out in Link’s green costuem isn’t going to go away anytime soon.
Screenwriter Discusses New Street Fighter Movie
Fri, 09 May 2008 03:28:51 +0000
Like many people, I’m still quite amazed that they’re actually making a new Street Fighter (particularly since I still have horrific flashbacks from the first one). But making it they are, and in fact JoBlo.com got a chance to sit down with the new film’s screenwriter, Justin Marks, to talk about what fans can expect from this new movie. According to Marks, the story for Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li will stick to the Street Fighter mythos rather carefully, but will partly delve into Bison’s past and reveal just how he gained his status. Marks also made it clear that they’re not looking to make the same mistakes that other films have made in the past. Besides ignoring the old film completely, he’s taken some of his cues from other films on what not to do, as seen in his response to a question about a possible shower scene like in the vastly superior anime film:
New Killzone 2 Trailer to Drool Over
Fri, 09 May 2008 02:44:20 +0000
Killzone 2 may have been pushed into 2009, but that’s not stopping Sony from revealing a new trailer for us to drool over. At their recent Gamers Day, they treated attendees to this trailer for the highly anticipated sequel. The video starts off kind of slow, but that last part of the trailer is just pure FPS action. If this is actual in-game footage, then we’re already looking at one of the must-have games for a PS3 owner.
Concept Art for Kid Icarus on the Wii Revealed
Fri, 09 May 2008 02:32:22 +0000
Okay, I think it’s safe to say that a Kid Icarus game for the Wii is all but confirmed now. Not only is there at least one insider convinced that Nintendo is set to reveal the game at E3, but now some concept art for the proposed game has surfaced. These images don’t reflect the final stages of the project, but you can kind of get a sense of what they’re going for. Just based on a few of the sketches, it looks like the game could involve various weapon upgrades plus different elemental powers for Pit to use. More importantly though, it looks like Pit is all grown up, having ditched his childlike appearance in Smash Bros. Brawl. I have an odd feeling they’re taking some cues from Zelda on this one.
New Hi-Res Render of Scorpion for MK Vs. DC Emerges
Fri, 09 May 2008 01:07:02 +0000
Ever since Midway announced the next Mortal Kombat title with MK Vs. DC, new media for the game has been somewhat scrarce. Now though, we can at least get a peek at what Scorpion will look like in the upcoming game. As you can see, not too much has been changed about his basic appearance, though his costume has undergone a slight makeover. Of course, there’s not much Midway could do to the guy that wouldn’t result in him looking like a badass.
